MORTIIS Norway (Ambient Darkwave)

is a long running artist with many facets. For metalheads, he always will be the first Black Metal legend’s Emperor bassist who recorded 1st EP and split with Enslaved. According to Mortiis (or in real name Håvard Ellefsen), back then he felt that Emperor lacked a strong magic or occult element, which leads us to next step of evolution, spawning now classic demonic solo image.

For fans of Ambient / Darkwave music, he will always be the pioneer of “dark dungeon music” with his MORTIIS works and later with Vond, Fata Morgana and Cintecele Diavolui. This time of his career commonly is known as “Era I”. In turn of millenniums, as ever-changing chameleon, Mortiis marched on creating some of finest goth electropop around (think smash-hit Parasite God from “The Smell of Rain”) up to latest outputs of strong industrial metal with songs pierced with hate, confusion, twisted electronica, distorted guitars and tortured vocals.

One thing is undeniable, MORTIIS single-handedly has built an entire ‘parallel world’ concept around his character through atmospheric and eerie dungeon music. At Kilkim Žaibu XIX and few more carefully selected shows around the globe, mr. Håvard Ellefsen will offer unique opportunity to visit his dark past of 90’s, where MORTIIS will present a live re-interpretation of the classic Cold Meat Industry release “Ånden Som Gjorde Opprør” (The Spirit That Rebelled). This comes as logic result of “Era I” albums having now a reissue treatment.

Mortiis says: “I don’t just want to do the record as it was back in 1994, but rather excavate and drag it into the new light of the current world, while retaining the atmosphere of the original sound.”
